Finaghy entrepreneur Olga Lynch left the corporate world to start the award-winning business
The coming school year will be the first in a long time with one consolidated transfer test for P7 pupils, with the AQE and GL tests being replaced by the new SEAG exam. That should simplify things for parents, kids and teachers, but sitting a transfer test at 10 or 11 years remains a momentous and potentially stressful experience.
Until The Transfer Tutor was launched, the only way a child could prepare for the transfer test was to go through white paper tests again and again in the general hope of improving. Olga explains that this only worked if someone could mark their paper and competently explain where they went wrong so the child could learn. The Transfer Tutor offers something completely different.
Olga also enjoys engaging with parents on her Facebook and Instagram pages with over 20,000 followers and to offer the chance for parents to ask questions for support, she set up a free SEAG support group on Facebook for parents; a vibrant hub for the transfer test community with over 11,000 members.
“I set about using my paper-based revision file, which I’d built up over the previous eight years, to start and build questions on the computer to see if I could reach and help him covertly and pass on all my experience, hints and tips and typical areas of mistakes,” she explains. “I had a lot of friends who had small businesses and I always helped them with their websites or marketing, or how to price things, or ideas of restructuring,” she says.
