The Netherlands’ answer to Brighton – only with broad, sandy beaches – Scheveningen has beach bars, souvenir shops and end-of-the-pier amusements in spades, including a giant Ferris wheel. It’s what makes it one of the country’s most popular holiday resorts. And not just in summer: surfers come all year to ride the waves.
As per the resorts further south, the shore is lined with restaurants and bars, where you can quaff cocktails with your toes in the sand. Squint and you could almost be in the Caribbean., which consists mostly of undulating sand dunes, but also incorporates woodland and beaches. Highland cattle, Shetland pony and deer roam the park; bison have also been introduced as part of a rewilding experiment.
