A shoplifter walked into TK Maxx and helped herself to five handbags. Amber Gregory, 37, of Lawson Street, Radford, picked up the bags, worth £200, and left without making any effort to pay on June 9.
A convicted shoplifter, she helped herself to the bags from TK Maxx at Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield, and struck at Sainsbury's, Clumber Street, Nottingham, on July 18. From there she stole two cans of booze - one which she had started to drink and one which was recovered. Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard on Friday Gregory said she was struggling financially and was alcohol dependent. She pleaded guilty to two charges of theft.Rebecca Meadows, representing her, said it was a fairly straightforward, unsophisticated offence - she walked in and took a number of bags and made off without paying. "She is struggling with substance misuse," she added.
Magistrates imposed a community order for 12 months, 10 rehabilitation days, a fine of £60 and a costs order of £85. She was ordered to pay compensation for the items to TK Maxx and Sainsbury's.
