Martin Lewis shares crucial message for women over 66 who may be entitled to State Pension back payments if they stayed home to look after their children between 1978 and 2010.
Martin Lewis returned to the small screen on Tuesday for a new series of The Money Show Live on STV and shared a crucial message for women over 66 who may be due State Pension back payments if they stayed home to look after their children between 1978 and 2010. The consumer champion explained that HM Revenue and Customs is sending out “thousands of letters” and urged anyone who receives one not to bin it for mistakenly believing that it’s a scam - it’s not.
HMRC is using NI records to identify as many people as possible who might have been entitled to HRP between 1978 and 2010 and have no HRP on their NI record. After May 2000, it became mandatory to include a NI number on claims so people claiming after this point will not have been affected. He continued: “Younger people will be able to do this later, or you could look into doing it now, but you will get your letters later. They’re starting with the people who are already at State Pension age.
