It’s Friday, late morning, and the oldest one is trying to work in the kitchen while I sit across the table from him, pounding away with a pestle. I can see it’s annoying, in hindsight.“I’m not cooking,” I say. “I’m crushing up the cat’s pill.”“When we got home from the vet, I rolled the first pill in a scrap of ham and the cat swallowed it whole,” I say. “I was like: moron.”“The next day he ate the ham and spat out the pill,” I say.
