Legendary skateboarder tonyhawk has given his backing for a decades-long campaign to build a new skatepark in Portrush.
BBC News NI north-east reporter
He said a facility would be used from sun up to sundown and that there were more people interested in the sport than is often realised."It's all very antiquated but if you dig deep you will see there are these people and skaters who have a passion for what they do." "The only reason you see them as troublemakers is because you won't provide a facility for them to do what they love doing so they have to resort to public property," he added. The equipment was returned but barriers have since been erected in the public square.
"It hit me really hard how long it's been - year after year we've been asking the council again and again can we have a skatepark" he said.
