'I was very clear over the summer I wanted to make sure our green spaces are protected. I think that is what local communities want,' the Prime Minister said during his trip to Japan for the G7 summit HugoGye reports
HIROSHIMA – Rishi Sunak is hoping to draw a dividing line with Sir Keir Starmer over housing policy, vowing to protect “green spaces” in England.facing a backlash from his own MPs who want him to liberalise the planning systemBut he is set to stick to his guns on the issue, insisting it was right to abolish housing targets for each local council and doubling down on his opposition to construction in the greenbelt.
“I don’t think that is the right approach. In government as Prime Minister, that is what I have delivered relatively shortly after taking office.” He added: “I was very clear over the summer I wanted to make sure our green spaces are protected. I think that is what local communities want. At the same time, we have empowered local communities with local plans.
“We’ve made it easier for local communities to adopt local plans so they can have a more meaningful say in the type of development happening in their areas.”
