She was given £25,423 in compensation with £21,000 for injury to feelingsA trans woman has won £25,000 in what is thought to be the UK's first sex discrimination tribunal of its kind after council bosses did not change her identity on its systems.
Bosses also refused to take her complaints of unfair treatment seriously and instead insisted she apologise after accusing one manager of conducting a 'witch hunt' against her, the tribunal heard. Upholding her sex discrimination claim, the panel - chaired by Employment Judge Fiona McLaren - ruled that 'deadnaming' the worker was 'less favourable treatment' which had contributed to her distress.
The tribunal heard that in September she became involved in a dispute at work about plans to install street lighting that she objected to as she felt they were unsafe. Threatening to sue for discrimination, she added: 'I will not be bullied and treated in a demeaning manner.' The following month she went off sick and did not return until November 1, 2021. According to her GP, she had undergone a period of 'huge stress and trauma' as a result of bullying.
