'Whoever did it really does need to be caught and actioned'
A Nottinghamshire council has been forced to fell a mature tree after it was vandalised. The decades-old tree in Butt Field Recreation Ground, Bingham is thought to have been attacked with an axe on Saturday evening, the town's mayor said.
Rowan Bird, mayor at Bingham Town Council, described the incident as "mindless damage". He said: "Somebody attacked a tree with an axe."The tree has had to be cut down as not only was it dangerous, it was certain to die. It was probably between 20 and 40 years old. "It's not acceptable." Mr Bird said the park had faced problems with crime in the past, including bins being set on fire.
