Christopher McGowan, 28, denies murdering 28-year-old Stirling woman Claire Inglis at her flat in Cultenhove Crescent, in the St Ninians area of the city, in November 2021.

A man accused of murdering his partner told a neighbour ‘I think I’ve killed her’ before she was found dead in her bedroom, a court has heard.

He accepted the words “I think I’ve killed her” were not recorded in a statement he gave to police at the time, but he was “100 per cent sure” McGowan had said them.He is accused of repeatedly striking the 28-year-old on the head and body, seizing her by the neck and compressing it, burning her on the nose, ear and thumb with a lighter, striking her on the head and body with a screwdriver, and forcing a tissue down her throat.

They found Claire, not breathing, badly bruised, with what appeared to be a baby wipe so deep in her throat they could not get an airway tube into her without removing it.He said in the second: “I need the police, please help me”.In the call, played to the court, he said: “She’s taken an overdose.Police Constable Johnston Moore, one of the first officers on the scene, said McGowan was “quite erratic - up and down, demanding to get into the kitchen to get cigarettes, shouting at police officers”.

Crime scene manager John Hunter, 35, said shards of glass were found on the floor at the foot of the flat stairs, and when he saw Claire’s body in the main bedroom the “first thing he noticed” were injuries to her face. The trial previously heard that evidence from paramedic, Florence McIntosh, and a colleague, who were the first Scottish Ambulance Service personnel to arrive at the flats.

They found Ms Inglis with “substantial injuries to her face” lying on the floor of her bedroom. A neighbour was performing CPR.
