Our thoughts are with his loved ones
The niece of respected Graham Rogers has paid tribute to one of the city's last bespoke tailors. He worked for the Nottingham tailor brand Will Hill and sadly passed away during the Covid crisis aged 92.
"He joined Will Hill in 1953 and at that time, there were over 100 tailors in Nottingham. People went to the tailors very regularly so there were different roles there like pattern cutting, measuring or pattern strikers. I would see him draw straight onto the fabric with chalk but he never knew how to sew so he measured, cut and fit the suits along with customer service," she explained.
"You had to go down an alleyway, up a staircase and into this room to be fitted so it felt like a very important appointment. I remember seeing a lot of his clients there because I got experience helping out and learning skill." But later developments had a huge impact on places like Will Hill as clothing became more readily available and disposable. The rise of leisure wear during this time also profoundly changed business.
