Schools across the county welcomed their Year 11s to the school for the final time on Thursday, August 24

Thousands of students across Nottinghamshire are celebrating their GCSE results, including a set of triplets from Nottingham. Also receiving their results today] was a published author from Hucknall, a student with 10 grade 9s in Radcliffe and an 18 year old who has shown that hard work pays off.

Home schooled pupil, Ariya Simmonds, 13, begun studying for his Chemistry GCSE in September 2022 and after several months of teaching, and no time in a science lab or school, he took his exams in May and has achieved a Grade 9. Ariya took his maths GCSE at age 12 in 2022 and in 2024 he hopes to take his Maths and Chemistry A-level exams, as well as GCSEs in English language and literature.

A Rise Park teenager was diagnosed with a rare condition shortly before his 16th birthday, but has since shown that the condition won't stop him from following his dreams. In the past five years Isaac Oldham lost his grandmother shortly after starting secondary school, endured the global pandemic, and then was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition.

A date for an operation to slow the corneal degeneration came just as Isaac was starting his GCSE exams, putting them at jeopardy. But his mum said he was ‘determined’ to sit them for the sake of his mental health and how hard he had already studied. She added: “Like most children, Isaac does not want to be seen as ‘different’ and the school has managed to meet all of his needs whilst respecting his need to be - in Isaac’s own words - ‘normal’.”

South Nottinghamshire Academy pupil, Elin Evans, 16, achieved a clean sweep with her GCSE results after she earned a grade 9 in all 10 of her subjects, which is the equivalent of ten A* grades. After opening her results, Elin said: “I feel quite happy to be honest. It’s a relief.” She studied the GCSE alongside her main vocational programme at college, the Level 3 Advanced Art and Design Practice Image Making course. Kylie said: “When I opened my envelope, I thought I may achieve a grade 5 – but getting an 8 really shocked me.
