BREAKING: An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 has struck the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 has rocked the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.

It struck some 15 miles from Port Olry, also hitting at a depth of 17 miles, the US Geological Survey said earlier today. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for coasts located within 186 miles of the epicenter.Vanuatu is home to about 280,000 people and is prone to natural disasters.The country sits on the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’, the arc of seismic faults around the Pacific Ocean where earthquakes and volcanoes are common.
