Mighty, macabre and memorable show is another terrifying triumph for Mike Flanagan.

The latest horror-themed show from Mike Flanagan takes inspiration from the work of gothic writer Edgar Allan Poe.

I was a massive fan of Flanagan’s Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor shows and Usher is another terrifying triumph.Get all the news from your area – as well as features, entertainment, sport and the latest on Lanarkshire’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic – straight to your fingertips, 24/7. The plentiful performances are too majestic across the board to give everyone a mention but Bruce Greenwood - replacing Frank Langella after he was fired during the production - is outstanding as the patriarch Roderick .

Flanagan regulars Gugino, Henry Thomas and Kate Siegel are joined by the likes of Mark Hamill in arguably his best ever turn as heartless lawyer Arthur Pym , Mary McDonnell’s serpentine Madeline and Lumbly’s soft-spoken moral crusader, while Zach Gilford and Willa Fitzgerald shine as a younger Roderick and Madeline and Michael Trucco is a foul-mouthed personification of toxic masculinity.
