Tony Parson's body was found more than three years after he was killed by Alexander McKellar in a hit and run

Alexander McKellar killed 63-year-old Tony Parsons, who was on a 100-mile charity cycle, in September 2017 when he hit him with his car on the A82 between Glasgow and Glencoe and left him to die. Along with his twin brother Robert McKellar, he hid the cyclist's body on the farm estate where they both worked, where it remained before being found in 2021.

The court heard that Alexander McKellar admitted driving on the A82 at “excess speed and when unfit through alcohol”. There was "extensive damage" to the front of McKellar's vehicle, which indicated the force at which he hit the cyclist. Police were alerted to the McKellar brothers' crimes following a tip-off from Alexander McKellar’s former partner Caroline Muirhead, who he had begun a relationship with in 2020, the court heard. Ms Muirhead had asked him if there was anything from his past that may affect their relationship, and he told her he had hit Mr Parsons with an Isuzu D-Max pick-up while speeding.

Handing down his sentence, the judge told the court: “Mr Parsons’s family have been deeply impacted and the emotional harm is ongoing. There is nothing I can say or do to compensate for their loss.”
