Two Scottish structures have been named in the 10 ugliest buildings in the UK, which are all 'crimes against architecture'
College building measures 14 stories tall which specialists say"dominates the Glasgow Skyline". It has sat vacant since 2014, become run down over the years and also boasts a large hot pink sign that says"People Make Glasgow", making it tough to ignore.located in the country's capital at Holyrood has previously been commended for its exterior, but experts now say it looks"out of date".
Matt Dahan from ParrotPrint.com said the poor aesthetics of the named buildings is down to prioritising functionality over design, making them look"cheap and ugly".“Architects have understood since the dawn of construction that a building should be functional and beautiful," he said. “However, this concept has been lost in these design. I would go as far as to say these are crimes against architecture, if I were in the area, I would not even want to look up at them.
“Many of these buildings across the country are certainly the definition of the brutalist architecture style which swept designers in the 1950s to 70s - such as Central Church in Devon. “And some are a reflection of this bad taste in a modern form - like the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.”Described as an ‘eyesore’ by many, this building is undoubtedly unpleasant, and due to its sheer height, it is also hard to miss.
