WBC champion Tyson Fury was knocked down by former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in the third round but ultimately won a split decision victory over 10 competitive rounds. The result maintains Fury's unbeaten record, with a fight against Oleksandr Usyk on the horizon.

The WBC champion was knocked down in the third round by the former UFC heavyweight champion – only the seventh time in his career he has hit the canvas – before ultimately going the distance and claiming a split decision victory over 10 hugely competitive rounds. The Brit was judged to have won 96-93, 95-94 on two of the three scorecards. Ngannou, fighting in his first professional boxing match, came out victorious on the other, 95-94.

Advertisement Ngannou dropped Fury in the third round on a heavy left hook but he didn’t just stop there and celebrate. He continued to stay aggressive and look for his shot and had moments late in the fight, particularly the eighth round. All of that said, this was not a robbery. This was a very close fight, much closer than we all thought it would be. But Fury still landed more punches and besides the knockdown did not look to be in any major trouble.
