A UK evacuation flight has taken off from Port Sudan as efforts continue to evacuate stuck Britons. A second flight is also expected to take off on Monday evening – though there is no word on whether further flights will continue into Tuesday.

despite having a dependant visa approved to join her husband, a structural engineer living in Cardiff. Her husband toldthat she is running short of food with supplies cut off due to the conflict. Worsening her plight, she is unable to leave the country by other means because her passport remains locked in an abandoned visa processing centre.

Thousands have attempted to make a risky journey to the border with Egypt, which requires crossing the desert and waiting for days with little food and water. A British-Sudanese medical student who fled to Egypt toldas crowds were forced to wait in scorching heat with very little food, water, sanitation or access to medical supplies.

“We’re in the bottom tier when it comes to the hierarchy of who gets to leave. The real, lowest rung of that ladder – that’s the Sudanese. There’s only so much anyone can do. We just bide our time.”
