, there’s the minor detail that many of those who decided to award Qatar hosting duties in the first place, have subsequently been sanctioned for allegations of corruption. The tiny desert state simply didn’t have the infrastructure, and according to its government, a massive 30,000 migrant workers were drafted in to build it. Claims that 6,500 of those workers died in the process are disputed by the Qatari government, which says that not all of them worked on building the World Cup and the figure includes white collar workers who died naturally after living in Qatar for many years.
