The UK government has announced it will block Scotland’s landmark gender recognition bill, designed to make it easier for transgender people to self-identify. Government minsters have staged an unprecedented intervention to block the bill, which is likely to spark a constitutional row between the two parliaments.
Scotland Secretary Alister Jack is expected to lay a section 35 order at Westminster tomorrow, which would prevent the legislation from being sent to the King for Royal Assent.
