Joy and despair in desperate battle to flee Kabul: First UK mercy mission lands at Brize Norton
First RAF rescue mission repatriating British nationals and Afghan evacuees landed at Brize Norton tonight. Thousands stuck in Kabul amid a frenzied international effort to evacuate as many people as possible. Afghan interpreters were in hiding near Kabul airport and said militant gunmen wanted to kill them.
