Mr Lynch told BBC Breakfast on Tuesday that he does have hope of a settlement and insisted the union is “ready to make compromises.”
He said the “agenda being put forward to workers that you’ve got to get poorer, while profits and dividends are at record levels, and profit is still being made out of the railway industry while they’re telling our people ‘you’ve got to be made redundant, you’ve got to change your working lives and you’ve got to be poorer in terms of your wages going forward’ and that’s not acceptable”.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper has claimed the “tide is turning” within unions about strike action, despite the RMT rejecting the latest offer. He said: “I think the tide is turning on people seeing that the offers we have made are reasonable, taking into account both the travelling public but also the interest of taxpayers.”
