The deal includes support from the UK for a new centre based in Turkey, established by the Turkish National Police, which is designed to tackle organised immigration crime by sharing intelligence. The centre will involve collaboration between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies, which the Home Office says will allow operational staff to “act more quickly on information”.
A new Memorandum of Understanding will allow UK and Turkish authorities to share customs data, information and intelligence more quickly, with the aim to “disrupt and dismantle people smuggling gangs”, the Home Office said.
