Since Russia invaded Ukraine back in February, many of the country's hospitals and clinics have been damaged or destroyed. In one attack, a maternity hospital was hit, killing several people.
As a man, Mr Badalov needed special permission to leave Ukraine in order to continue his training.
Cambridge believes it is the first programme of its kind to support Ukrainian medical students in the UK. As part of the course, they will shadow doctors on wards and in clinics and practice key skills, such as physically examining patients.While it is conventional for the university to welcome students from other countries, Dr Jonathan Fuld from Cambridge's medicine department said the group had experienced"extraordinary" circumstances.
"One of our students was actually in occupied territories and made a journey through Russia in order to get a visa that enabled them to come on this placement.
