Under-40s ‘will now be offered alternative vaccine’ over blood clot fears
PEOPLE under 40 will be offered an alternative to the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab due to blood clot fears.
There have been 242 cases of blood clots reported from 28.5 million first doses and second doses of the AstraZeneca jab, according to a Government update on Thursday.For those aged 40 to 49 the incidence is 10.1 per million doses, and 17.4 per million for those aged 30 to 39. The long-awaited announcement came from The Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation , a panel of experts which advises the government, today.“We have continued to assess the benefit-risk balance of COVID-19 vaccines in light of UK infection rates and the latest information from the MHRA on the extremely rare event of blood clots and low platelet counts following vaccination.
