Families said they waited for weeks for details of when funerals would be held, while their calls to Howell went unanswered, leaving them ‘anxious and distressed’. The court heard how, after receiving complaints from families, police and trading standards inspected her firm, Kenworthy Funeral Directors in Tameside, in February 2019.
Her lawyer, Mark Fireman, said the stolen money was ploughed back into the ‘failing business’ which Howell had been left to run against her wishes by her ex-husband.
