Leader of the Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer and shadow health secretary Wes Streeting, meet scientists during a visit to the Francis Crick Institute in north London Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer says he isn’t sure if he would have attended university if he was faced with the same level of tuition fee debt as young people currently studying.
“One of the things I’m afraid I’ve been forced into by the damage that this government has done to the economy is to look again at the costings of everything that an incoming Labour government might be able to do, might want to do, and to make some really difficult choices,” he said. Asked whether he would have attended university if the had been subject to similar fees as students today, Sir Keir said: “I don’t know”.
