Uvalde school police chief ditched radio during shooting because he 'thought it would slow him down'
Pete Arredondo, the Uvalde school district police chief, was aware shortly before ordering the storming of the building that there were people still alive inside. He ditched his radio on the way into the school because he thought it would 'slow him down' while he ran. He also revealed in his first interview yesterday that he didn't think he was in charge of the operation. He and other cops were stuck outside the classroom for an hour while the shooter was trapped inside with kids.
