Valve has started selling refurbished Steam Decks. The refurbished units are 'thoroughly tested to the same high standards' as retail units, and are being sold at discounts of $80-$130 depending on the model.
As with other companies that sell refurbished goods,is a unit that can no longer be sold as new, for a variety of reasons. For example, they may have been purchased and opened but then returned, thereby making them second-hand.
“Every device goes through a complete factory reset, software update, and an extensive examination involving over 100 tests at one of Valve’s facilities. Among the tests are all controller inputs, the audio system, the screen, and internals. Battery health is also assessed to ensure proper functionality and longevity.
