Vanessa's vintage Chanel gown was similar to Julia's dress from 2001
One of the first celebrities to walk this year’s Oscars champagne-coloured carpet was Vanessa Hudgens, who kept it simple and chic in a vintage Chanel gown. However, red-carpet commentators were quick to point out the dress was reminiscent of a Valentino dress that actress Julia Roberts wore when she won her 2001 Best Actress Oscar for her role in Erin Brockovich.
The minimalist black velvet dress featured a wide white band across the strapless neckline and also around the ankle-grazing hem, and button details on the hips are iconic when it comes to classic Chanel. The High School Musical star also opted for some old-Hollywood style glamour with simple diamond jewellery, including diamond-studded earrings, a simple diamond rope necklace, and. of course, her incredible engagement ring from fiancé Cole Tucker.
The dress was styled with a pair of sky-high black stiletto pumps with pointed toes, and she completed the look with some black and white nails painted in a bold graphic oval print. Stylist Jason Bolden was responsible for the chic and modern pairing, with many people in the comments gushing about how elegant the overall look was.
