Verstappen says his 63-point lead to Leclerc in the F1 championship standings is a 'bit bigger than what it should have been' given Ferrari's performance this year.

Verstappen scored his seventh win of the 2022 season in Sunday's French Grand Prix after Leclerc crashed out while leading towards the end of the first stint.and had led by just over one second from Verstappen before Red Bull brought the Dutchman into the pits at the end of lap 16.

"It's still very important to always score points, even on a bad day, which we did in Austria," said Verstappen. Verstappen admitted he thought Leclerc would have been faster through the opening stint of the race and it would be"very hard to follow", only to find he could stay within reach easier than expected.

Verstappen acknowledged that his buffer to Leclerc was"a great lead", but warned that"a lot of things can happen" after seeing his 46-point deficit to Leclerc after three races quickly turn around.
