People are being told to stay away from Holme
A Nottinghamshire village has been cut off from the rest of the county due to flooding on the only road in and out. The lane leading to Holme, a village near Newark, has been blocked due to flooding from Storm Babet, with the village now only accessible by 4x4 vehicles.
More than 40 houses in the village are affected. It is understood that this is the worst flooding the area has seen in over 20 years. The village of Holme is located alongside the River Trent and used to be a hamlet to North Muskham. The area became it's own village in the 1600s when the River Trent changed course and separated them.Nottinghamshire County Councillor for Collingham, Debbie Darby said: "I just want to give a reassurance that we are dealing with flood issues at Holme Village – with access to the village only possible by 4 x 4.
"We have been working with various agencies including Newark and Sherwood District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council who are on the ground, making residents aware and offering support to the Holme community which has been temporarily cut off. Over 40 houses are impacted by the flooding, which hasn’t happened on this scale of nearly 23 years."
She added: "I am pleased that all agencies are working together to support this wonderful village. Although we are not entirely sure how long this will last – I am confident that all residents are receiving the support they need.
