It is set a few miles from Lancaster, in the Lune valley
For more than a year, we've had the honour of discovering Lancashire. We've taken you to happy hamlets, rustic villages, quirky towns, heritage sites, amazing landmarks and fascinating neighbourhoods.
READ MORE: The unassuming riverside village with abandoned mansion and tower-block free views for milesView gallery Hornby made an immaculate first impression on us. Its brilliance is subtle and modest, with village favourites we've become accustomed to and embedded within Lancashire's rural communities. The more you look, the more you smile at the charming details.
You can imagine horse drawn carriages clopping by and the distant clang of a cobbler in his workshop, before a bike whizzes past, followed by a tank-like 4x4 and you are brought back to the present. It has the distinct feel of a Cornish village. And alright, it might not have a coast but when the swarms of tourists have retreated for the summer and locals emerge into the auburn autumn sun to grab a pie or cut of fine meat from the family-run Hornby butchers or a cup of tea and homemade cake at the village tea room, it feels so very wholesome.
It has grown into a vital lifeline for residents, with a full swimming lesson programme and offering private pool hire for family parties.
