Jonas Vingegaard appears poised to defend his Tour de France title 🚴 He posted consecutive strong days in Stages 16 and 17, leading the 21-stage race by 7 minutes and 35 seconds.
The Danish Jumbo-Visma star had the race of his life in the Stage 16 time trial, winning by an astonishing 1 minute and 38 seconds. By all accounts, Pogačar had a strong showing, too — he finished second and over a minute ahead of the third-place finisher. But it was clearly an inflection point in what had been one of the closest Tours ever before this week.
“The Tour de France is not over yet. I’m sure Tadej will try something on the last three stages, so we just have to still keep fighting,” Vingegaard said. “We’re not in Paris yet.”Get all-access to exclusive stories.
