The family of murdered Olivia Pratt-Korbel campaigned for the law change after child-killer Thomas Cashman refused to emerge
Violent criminals who refuse to enter court to face sentence can be forcibly dragged into court or have their sentences increased under new legislation announced today.
The campaign was also given additional urgency after the UK's worst child serial killer in modern times, neo-natal nurse Lucy Letby, refused to face her victims' families when she was sentenced for the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of six others on August 21. "As a father of two daughters, I shared the nation's shock and grief at Olivia Pratt-Korbel's murder. I want victims and their families to see justice being served. The changes we're making today will help achieve that."
Offenders who refuse to comply despite a judge's order can have their sentences extended for up to two years.
