John Ling was slapped with a £170 charge after taking a disabled man to an appointment at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital
A hospital parking fine given to a charity volunteer as he took a disabled man to an appointment has been cancelled after the M.E.N. took up the case. John Ling, 77, was initially slapped with a £70 for a 10 minute stay outside Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
But despite the threat of legal action Mr Ling, of Openshaw, still refused to pay and said he was willing to go to court to fight his case. However, after being contacted by the M.E.N., Parkingeye, the company which runs the hospital car park, has said it will now cancel the charge 'as a gesture of good will'.
A spokesperson for Parkingeye said: "The motorist parked in a designated hatched area that is strictly reserved and provides access for emergency vehicles only, he therefore correctly received a parking charge. Parkingeye operates a British Parking Association audited appeals process, which motorists can use to appeal their parking charge.
