Volunteer-run Fylde community food hub awarded five-star hygiene rating
The Fylde Food Community Hub, based in Lower Lane Community Centre in Freckleton, was given the highest possible rating by the Food Standards Agency . The hub is run by volunteers Carol Thomas, Maureen Baxter and John Wynn, with support from Alan Buckley and Nev Flack.
Volunteers at the hub work all year round, supporting people in need who live in Freckleton, Kirkham, Newton and Warton, providing donations at Lower Lane Community Centre, which is owned by Progress Housing Group. Recently, the Freckleton-based hub celebrated the most recent seasonal holiday, as the volunteers dressed up as Easter bunnies and gave away chocolate eggs to children.
“Nev and Alan do a great job collecting the bread from all the bakers every Saturday morning and we have a young volunteer Richard, who is a big help to us. We are also grateful to Dean from Derby Hill Dairy who donates milk and delivers every week.
