Government sources have said the UK will ‘imminently' make Russia’s mercenary Wagner Group a proscribed terrorist organisation like ISIS. This would make it a criminal offence to join, encourage support and attend its meetings.
The UK is set to makeA Government source said the move was ‘imminent’ and likely to be enacted within weeks after two months spent building a legal case, according to The Times.
It comes as Labour demanded ministers formally label the Wagner Group a terror outfit after accusing it of committing ‘appalling atrocities’. It would become a criminal offence to join or post about the group if it was added to the list of terror organisations Earlier on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin used Moscow’s Victory Day parade to accuse the West of unleashing a ‘real war’ on the country with its ‘untamed ambitions’.
