Charlie Savage made an assist on his international debut as Wales thrashed Gibraltar 4-0 on home soil
Just one cameo appearance in the Champions League is all Savage, son of former Premier League midfielder Robbie, managed after breaking through the youth ranks at Carrington. The talented youngster sought pastures new in July when he joined cash-strapped Reading on a four-year deal.
"For me to be here with his grandma and his family was amazing," Savage Snr told BBC Radio Wales after watching his son's debut. "He deserves it. League One is different but tonight was the perfect game for him, utilising his passing - and he was magnificent. Wales manager Page revealed after the game that he told Savage to leave United to further his career. That move has paid dividends, with the youngster remaining with the first-team setup for the Croatia clash rather than linking back up with the under-21s.
