, and it leapt off [the page]. It's really exciting to be able to play different things, but it was the story, really, that won me over. And I think it's been executed just as Eddie wanted.Eddie developed the movie from his own short film of the same name, so did he want you to watch that beforehand or was he keeping the two projects very separate?

Because everything about the film suggests it was always important to get that side of the movie right. Just being able to have those conversations with her, and pick her brain about what it was like growing up with Leo. When she started to notice that he might do things in a different way to other kids, and how his behaviour was maybe more unique.

So I think everybody that was in the room really wanted to be there, everyone was going towards a set goal. They wanted to make sure that these scenes really stood out, and everyone was delighted to be in the film. So there was a magic excitement in the air that was pretty infectious. We started our first week shooting that drum circle, and it was a great way to kick off the movie.

We had the crowd – like, the supporting artists to come be the crowd at the end, supporting and cheering everyone on – but, of course, we were shooting in Peckham at the weekend at 10 o'clock at night. It was busy.We were having busloads of people come by and real people would stop on the street, clap and sing along and dance. There was no effort required to be emotionally involved. They were real, real tears.
