Buying alcohol from stores that illegally stay open could lead to a jail sentence of up to six months, or you could be met with a hefty fine of up to £235.

The gov.uk website states: "Thailand will hold general elections on Sunday 14 May, with smaller-scale advance voting taking place on Sunday 7 May. No major disruptions to public services are expected. "Under Section 147 of Thailand’s election law, the sale of alcohol is banned from 18:00 on Saturday 6 May until 18:00 on Sunday 7 May, and also from 18:00 on Saturday May 13 until 18:00 on Saturday 14 May.

"This ban applies to convenience stores, bars, restaurants, and other public and private entertainment venues.
