Fears are growing that Vladimir Putin is plotting to open a western front in the war in Ukraine by backing a coup in Moldova that would allow Russia to take control of country’s main airport DavidParsley50 reports:
“The United States firmly supports Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” a US State Department spokesperson told i.
Thousands join a protest against the Moldovan government and their pro-EU president in Chisinau on Sunday , has passed on intelligence to his Moldovan counterpart, President Maia Sandu, that showed the Kremlin was planning to back a coup in her country and fly in Russian forces into the Chisinau airport, just 13 miles from the centre of the capital and within easy range of Ukraine’s western border.
“We have been in close contact with our Moldovan partners during this critical time, and strongly support the leadership of Moldovan President Maia Sandu. We also look forward to working with Prime Minister Recean and his cabinet as they continue to pursue political, economic, and anti‑corruption reforms.
