We ate at Blackburn's top chippy where two words left us on edge
The North's love of chippies knows no bounds. So much so it feels like it should almost be a written law that we should have one every Friday.
Walking in and I see signs everywhere letting customers know that this particular fish and chips spot is HMC or Halal Monitoring Committee Certified, which means that anyone of Muslim faith dining there can be assured that the products they are consuming are genuinely Halal. The sheer size of the shop is impressive too, with an extensive seating area available for diners who may want to enjoy their fish and chips whilst they're still fresh inside the premises.
People filled in as I waited and I noted that despite being at an awkward time of the day at 2.30pm, people were still keen to get their hands on some fish and chips. I look around and see someone enjoying their food on a seat beside me whilst most opted to take theirs to wherever they need to be.
