We ditched a holiday abroad for one less than an hour's drive away and loved it
Like many families out there, being locked up for so long during the pandemic has people itching to go on holiday.Kate Lally, a reporter from our sister title the Liverpool Echo, decided to make the most of Britain and went on holiday less than an hour from where she lives in Liverpool. The Sefton coastline boasts 22 miles of glorious beaches, beautiful pinewoods, sand dunes, and walking and cycling trails.
Under the clear blue sky we could see across to the Blackpool Tower and beyond that to Cumbrian hills. After unpacking, we took ourselves to Southport Market for a bite to eat. We meandered back to the hotel through the town's wide streets, full of rock and ice cream shops, and reminiscent of seaside holidays from years gone by. Then it was time for a play on the swings at Kings Gardens before a stroll along the lake, and we even managed a nightcap at the hotel's chic terrace bar before it was time for bed.
