It has seen a 200% rise in demand for services since the start of November
With the cost of living spiraling and energy prices becoming unaffordable for many families across West Northamptonshire, a network of 67 local groups and charities have opened their doors as 'Warm Spaces' to provide shelter and support for those struggling this winter.
Although the services provided by the different Warm Spaces varies, as a homeless charity Northampton Hope Centre provides lots of activities. Hot drinks and sometimes hot food like paninis are served, there is a gym upstairs, and training courses in budgeting and DIY and even art classes are laid on for those who come in.
Louise, 43, revealed that the centre had already started planning to open a Warm Space before the council called. "We recognised there was going to be a need this winter, we were seeing an awful lot more people coming through our food hub and more people coming in asking about our other services," she said.
"There's two ways to look at it," Louise said when asked about what the need to open warm spaces like Northampton Hope Centre said about the situation in the UK and West Northamptonshire.At NorthantsLive we're more than just news. "The staff are amazing here, you've got the gym upstairs and other groups too. They've got all sorts so just come over and give it a try."
