‘We live in a deprived and neglected area but now people will see that change can happen here’
Residents who transformed an 'eyesore' ginnel into an award-winning area say they are ‘excited and shocked’ to have won the RHS and MEN Ginnel Garden Competition 2023.
Now, after winning the contest, the group will get cash and expert advice on how to spruce up the ginnel even more. The group have won £1,000 to help transform their ginnel into a vibrant space and has been invited to the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show opening tomorrow . They will also attend a design consultation with Jason Williams, a former exhibitor at RHS Tatton Park and RHS Chelsea Flower Show, who will share his expert tips and ideas on how they can transform their ginnel.
“We want to create a safe space for people to gather and socialise with each other, and hopefully inspire neighbouring streets to adopt a similar attitude, as litter and fly tipping has been problematic in this area for some time and the residents are fed up with it.” “We’re currently doing a lot of community work at the moment to empower and regain some sense of community, and winning this competition is an amazing catalyst to help this and involve more people.”
“Residents are onboard with the project, and we’ve even got the block along starting to clean their space. We hope this will have a chain effect in the area and do good for the community.”
