We tried Blackpool's world famous oyster bar with more than a hint of trepidation
When it comes to seaside towns it's undoubtable that fish and seafood will make up a major part of the local food culture.
The oyster bar was set up in 1876 by John Roberts from Preston, when customers could buy seven oysters for a shilling . Today the business is owned by Neil Parkinson who very kindly offered me an oyster for free after I voiced my trepidation."I've never eaten oysters in my life - are you supposed to swallow them straight or chew them?" I asked Neil nervously. "Some people just swallow them but then you don't get the taste.
After a few tentative chews, and a swallow, I was amazed. My concerns about it being slimy and chewy were quickly allayed and instead, as a big fan of seafood, it tasted to me just like a massive mussel or cockle.
