People like to say we still do spectacle better than other countries. Is that really true though? Something spectacular has happened to us at last, after all: a team of women with quasi princess names – Mary, Millie, Chloe, Katie, Lucy, Ella,Laurens – may win the World Cup. I love these names because they feel gloriously like satire, or spite even:
