Making your own wreath for your front door is a growing trend, so we went along to give it a go
Displaying a colourful wreath on your front door at Christmas-time is not a new craze. In fact, it dates back to the 16th century and is understood to have begun in Germany, with the circular shape symbolising eternal life, while the door hanging further represents the act of inviting the spirit of Christmas into your home and bring luck.
However, in recent years especially, there has been a growing trend in people keen to create their own, with workshops at a local florist and tutorial videos popping up on on social media.
"This might not end well for you two" a lady sharing the same workstation table as us joked before we got started. Generally we work well as a team, whether it be cooking or making plans, and although this may have been unchartered territory for us, I wasn't concerned our day would play out like a scenes of families bickering over who gets the last pig in blanket.
The actual building of the wreath is quite fiddly and requires patience, something I don't usually have a whole lot of, especially with anything arty, but my determination to succeed far out-weighed any potential frustration. Oh and keeping me well fed and watered helped, too.
