Aidan Martin is speaking out on his experience in a bid to help tackle an epidemic of youth violence in Scotland
A dad-of-three who runs a charity helping young people and prisoners has told how he used to carry a hammer in school for “protection”.
“I love the area where I’m from, but there were alot of tough times growing up. There was violence all the time.” “That was a big shock and I thought ‘that could have been me’. It was then that I realised the violence had become extreme.” Aidan is backing our sister title, the Daily Record’s, Our Kids ... Our Future campaign’s aim of calling on the Scottish Government to increase funding for youth service within communities, added: “So much of the violence I experienced was sparked by having nothing to do and nowhere to go.
“Otherwise, they are just going to stay stuck in the environments that they are in. We need to give them a fighting chance by providing opportunities and safe spaces to flourish.”
